G. Sakai started as a small knife maker in 1958.  Over time, they have become know as a maker of some of the finest knives in the world.  Companies like Gerber, Al Mar, Spyderco, Cold Steel, and SOG have turned to G. Sakai to manufacture some of their high end knives.
  With all of this OEM work, G. Sakai has not had a great amount of time to make their own G. Sakai line of knives.  The G. Sakai line is comprised of some of the highest quality knives that you will find anywhere.
  These knives are very hard to find and availability is very limited.  It is typical to wait 2 months or more for a knife that is not in their stock.

60606 - KITANO EDGE "ULTIMATE"
Mr. Kitano is one of the best known custom knife makers in Japan. The Kitano Edge series is part of G.SAKAI collaboration to attempt to offer a custom knife as a factory made knife (or semi-custom knife) in the marketplace.
The blade is made of laminated ZDP-189 steel which is powder steel. This laminated blade consists of three layers. Core steel ZDP-189 is sandwiched between outer steels ATS-55. ZDP steel goes through special processes such as heat treatment in a vacuum furnace & then subzero quenching. As a result, the blade is given Rockwell Hardness up to 67. An extremely hard blade, but no observation of tipping or breakage on the cutting edge. Three layers are welded by high temperature.Another special feature of the Kitano Edge is hamaguri-ba (or apple seed edge bevel) which is seen on the cutting edge of Japanese traditional swords.
The hamaguri-ba is really razor sharp.

Falconry is one of the Japanese traditional outdoor sports that has been handed down from generation to generation from the Edo era in the 1600's. The original designer of the Hoyoto wanted to reflect the falconer's life work in the knife as much as possible. The Hoyoto is ideal for dressing small game. The blade is made out of 440 stainless steel (HRC58-59) which is easy to hone and is superior in corrosion resistance. Handle is gorgeous Green Micarta (10717) or Cocobolo wood (#10716).

This knife features a razor sharp 2-7/8" ATS-34 stainless steel, drop point blade.  Blade is very nicely etched ATS-34  Y. AIDA DESIGN  SAKAI MAKER and is tang stamped G. SAKAI on one side, tang stamped ATS34 on the other.
The handle has solid stainless steel bolsters on both ends.  Between the bolsters on both sides are beautiful genuine Mother of Pearl inlays with 4 genuine Abalone stripes on the Pearl Road, or Two large Abalone inlays separated by a Mother of Pearl section on the Abalone Road version.

G. Sakai, in collaboration with legendary custom knifemaker Koji Hara, has recently introduced this truly exceptional folder.  Koji Hara actually used to work for G. Sakai.  Now, they have teamed up to make this elegant gentleman's linerlock.
Throughout history, Japan has used bamboo extensively in their art, culture, and everyday items.  The female bamboo plant's natural curves and flexibility allow it to be used in many different ways.  The beauty of the plant was the focus of this knife. 
Beautiful design, handmade craftsmanship, and top quality materials combine to place this folder in G. Sakai's Platinum line. 
The blade is a mirror polished SanMai laminated steel of VG-10 sandwiched in 420J2.  It features a crane image and koji/g.sakai one one side, SAN MAI  VG-10  SEKI JAPAN on the other.  The spine of the blade is shaped in a bamboo pattern that continues out from the handle.  The handle is beautifully formed segments of white or black Mother of Pearl separated with fine lines of polished nickel silver on both sides.  The single thumb stud is adorned with matching Mother of Pearl.
